Woolly-White (Hymenopappus artemisiifolius)

Wooly-White, often called Wild Cauliflower or Old Plainsman is a member of the Aster family and blooms from March through July.

The unique plants can grow to three feet tall and has a flower head at the top of each long stem. Each flowering head has 30-60 smaller flowers. From snow white to shades of pink and rose. Double click on the picture to see the amazing details of this beautiful flower. Wooly-White grows in large colonies along roadsides and open spaces.

Black Swallowtails and Pipevine Butterflies love these and they are their major food source for their larvae. Shown here is the Pipevine butterfly, very similar to the black swallowtails, but it has no tails.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow ; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool."
Isaiah 1:18 KJV
