Plains Coreopsis

Member of Aster Family

Blooms: May - Fall

This plant is very colorful and almost identical to another of the Coreopsis family called "Tickseed". It grows along road ditches and in moist soils of East Texas. It is often found growing in large colonies.

This plant was first discovered in Arkansas in 1823 by Thomas Nuttall who studied native plants in North America. Navtive Americans used the flowers to produce a red dye for dyeing wool and cotton.
