We Have New Guests @ Grandpa's Diner

Seems our critter population is growing again. The deer will have their fawns anytime now. This mother raccoon really has her hands full.
Aren't they cute? Animals are just great!! Looks like these little ones are already learning to eat "real food".....bring on the corn.
Raccoons are quite common in Texas and most of North America. The mother usually gives birth to 2-5 babies, called kits. They are omnivorous, meaning they eat plants as well as small animals and insects and they are nocturnal. They are very clever and can figure out many ways of getting to their source of food. They are often taken as pets, but also are known to carry rabies. Wild things need to be free, so, we just watch them come and go and enjoy them. Their weight can range up to 20 pounds, but I think we could break that record with some of our bunch.
