Amelia's Sand Verbena

Member of Four-O'-Clock Family
Blooms: February - May
This plant grows in large numbers, making a beautiful purple trail down the highways. It grows upright to widely sprawling and has tiny coarse hairs, making it's stems and leaves somewhat rough and prickley.
Sand Verbena grows in sandy soils, loves full sun and takes drough well. It can be found along woodlines also.
This plant was named by Dr. Cyrus Longworth Lundell (1907-1994), after his wife, Amelia. She organized the herbarium at Southern Methodist University and was founder and director of the Texas Research Foundation at Renner.
