Dragonfly

A follower of my blog and a dear friend of many years shared this photo of this beautiful dragonfly.

The Dragonfly is a type of insect belonging to the order Odonata. It is characterized by large multifaceted eyes, two pairs of strong transparent wings and an elongated body. Dragonflies are similar to Damselfies, but the adults can be identified by the way they hold their wings while at rest. The wings of the Dragonfly will be held away from the body.
Dragonflies are valuable predators that they eat mosquitoes, and other small insects like flies, bees, ants and butterflies. They are usually found around lakes, ponds, streams and wetlands because their larvae, known as "nymphs" are aquatic.
Great picture! Thanks LaFuchia for sharing.
