Drummond Skullcap (Scutellaria drummondii)

Drummond Skullcap is a member of the Mint family  (Lamiaceae) and is often found growing in dry, poor, sandy soils usually in partial shade. The beautiful blue-violet flowers  bloom from February into the fall. The Skullcap drops its seeds leaving the cap-like calyx which gives it its name. The flowers are about 1/2" across and the plant reaches about 8 - 12" in height.
Though most members of the mint family are used in making teas for medicinal purposes, this one is highly toxic and best left alone.

And bearing HIS cross went forth into a place call the place of a skull which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: Where they crucified HIM, and two other with HIM, on either side one, and JESUS in the midst.

John 19:17-18
