Blooms: September - October
This little plant is so unique. It grows in sandy soils in full sun and is a beautiful sunny yellow color. Its tiny blooms are about 1/2" in diameter.
Broomweeds bloom in fall and shed their leaves as they begin to bloom, leaving a spindling woody stemmed plant covered with tiny flowers.
Livestock and wildlife do not graze this plant as it is toxic. It causes severe inflamation of the eyes in humans and animals.
Early settlers took the dried stalks and tied them together and made brooms out of them, giving it its name of "Broom"weed.
