Mr. Grasshopper

I discovered this colorful guy today as I was searching for fall flowers. I assume it is a "he" since the coloring is so bright. Seems in the insect world the males are always the prettiest.
Notice his blue eyes and the black markings on his legs. Really pretty and unique. Just had to share his picture. Click on picture for a better look.
This grasshoppers name is Differential Grasshopper, Melanoplus differentialis, and is easily identified by the black chevron markings on its hind femurs. They are usually about 1 3/4 inches long. They are very pretty, but very destructive to crops. There are 150 species of grasshoppers in Texas, 90% of the damage to crops is done by only five species and this is one of them.
"And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."
