Alfalfa Butterfly
This butterfly is a member of the Sulphur family. This particular one is the female. When perched their wings are closed up and appear solid yellow. When in flight, you can see gray-black markings along the outer part of its wings.
Alfalfas are very common in the south. They are only about 2 inches across and fly about at a rapid rate, only stopping for a second or two.
They love to feed on Alfalfa blooms, many clovers and the legumes. This one stopped for a brief moment to dine on the nectar of the tiny flower of the Poor Joe plant.
