Engelmann's Daisy

Member of Aster Family
Blooms: February - November
This plant is a perennial herb growing up to about 40" tall. It has a very woody taproot, which makes it very hard to transplant into your garden.
It's flowers are about 2" across and such a beautiful yellow color, attracting many insects and butterflies for it's large amount of pollen. It grows in sandy, clay soils of grasslands, prairies and is found in most all parts of Texas.
The Engelmann's Daisy is grazed by livestock and it not as plentiful as it once was. It is mostly found in native grasslands and ungrazed pastures. The genus honors Dr. George Engelmann (1809-1884), a St. Louis physician and botanist who collected and classified many species.
