Woolly Locoweed
Member of Legume Family
Blooms: March - July
This is one of my favorites, I love the lavender and purple flowers. It is very low growing and sprawling to the ground. It grows in patches along hills, roadsides and pastures. It likes dry, sandy soils and is really abundant this year.
Woolly Locoweed contains a chemical called lococine and is one of several species that can cause death in animals if they graze it. They show nervous deranged movements and display irrational behavior and spasmodic movement, thus giving an appearance of being "loco" or crazy.
