Venus's Looking-Glass

Member of Bluebell Family

Blooms: March - July
This plant is found almost everywhere in North East Texas, as well throughout Texas. It loves dry, sandy, poor soils. It can be found along woodlines, pastures, prairies and old fields.
It's name comes from Latin word "Speculum" meaning "mirror of Venus", from its flat, black, shiny seeds. It grows about 12" tall with flowers all the way to top of stem.
Cherokee Indians steeped the roots of this plant along with parts of other plants and drank the tea for indgestion .
Hast thou with HIM spread out the sky, which is strong, and as a molten "looking glass"?
Job 37:18
