Trillium Grandiflorum

This weekend, April 23, 24, 25 will be the 40th year of our areas Texas Wildflower Trails Festival as we celebrate Spring and all the beautiful wildflowers of our area.
This beautiful flower, Trillium, is the flower that started the Wildflower Trails. It is very rare and never before found in North East Texas. It grows in extreme Northern America and Canada.
It is often called a wild orchid, but is of the Lily family. There are 40-50 species of the Trillium , some are purple in color, but the rarest is the beautiful white one. It is illegal to remove these flowers from any location as they are rare.
The White Trillium serves as the emblem and official flower of the Canadian province of Ontario. It is also the state flower of Ohio.
It was originally found here between Avinger and Hughes Springs, Texas many years ago.
In our area alone, there are over 2,000 species of wildflowers that have been identified and we are still finding more . Ladybird Johnson had our main highways designated as Texas Wildflower Trails. In late April, the wildflowers have the most species blooming at one time. They are spectacular this year due to all the rain we have had.
I posted this photo from the Wikipedia online encyclopedia. I have not been fortunate enough to actually find one----------but my search continues!!!
