Blooms: February - March
This wild plum tree grows up to about 18 ft. and is mingled all through the woods among the other trees. It is one of the first bloomers in spring. The blooms have a very sweet fragrance that you can smell from far away. The plums ripen, much like other wild plums and are blue-purple in color. They have a very tart and sour taste and are not good to just eat from the tree, but make wonderful jams and jellies. Wildlife like to feed on their fruits. Sometimes the blossoms are light pink, mostly white. Click on flower to see the beautiful detail.
