Spiderworts grow in large colonies usually in wooded areas. They open early in the morning and by mid-day have closed up.

Indians ate the leaves and flowers, which they boiled, but the roots are poison. They contain a substance called "Saponin".

After I took this I discovered a tiny green spider on left side --- SPIDERWORT!
