Blooms: April - September
A friend gave me a small plant that she had gotten in NC. It is not like the butterfly weed we have in Texas, but is very beautiful. Unlike Texas ones, this ones blooms all summer long. The stems can reach as much as 5 ft. tall with blooms continuing in top of the stem. They as well are favorites food source of the Monarch butterfly, which lays its eggs on the plant and the larvae feed on the foliage, therefore turning into bright green, yellow & black striped catapillars. They then turn into a crysalis and apprx. 10 days later, out emerges the beautiful butterfly. I watched mine everyday as the metamorphis occured, only to come home one day from work and discover the butterflies had already emerged and were gone.
