Blooms: Early Spring--Until Frost
This is a very beautiful fern. Ferns are my favorites, I say that about all of them!! The Cinnamon Fern must have shade and lots of moisture. It loves bogs and marshes. I have grown it in big pots, but it takes large amounts of water and complete shade.
In early spring it "blooms" with the brown cinnamon looking spikes, which are covered with spores. These wither after a couple of weeks. The Cinnamon Fern, in ideal environment can grow from 3 - 6 ft. tall.
The young unrolling fronds are called "fiddle heads" because they closely resemble, you guessed it, fiddle heads. Take a close look at the ones above, amazing how they just pop up and everyday they unfold a little until they are a beautiful green frond.
