Scarlet Clematis

Member of Crowfoot Family
Blooms: March - May
This plant is low-climbing or sprawling and likes to twine around other plants. It is a beautiful shade of scarlet red. It is found in dry, rocky soils on slopes, along streams and shaded cliffs. This one was growing on the "Jumping Cactus".
Native Americans used the leaves to make a tea to take for headaches, mostly migraines. This is the only true red clematis and it is only found in Texas. It's delicate little thimble shaped blooms were all among the thorns of the cactus.
"They stripped HIM and put upon HIM a scarlet robe."
Matthew 27:28
