Wild Pepper Plant

This plant is not very showy, but has tiny white blooms which it produces in early fall. It loves damp, rich soils and does well under trees and brush.

Early settlers dried the leaves of this plant and crushed them and used them as pepper for seasoning their foods. It really does taste just like black pepper.
