Bluets (Houstonia serpyllifolia)

These tiny lavender flowers are very early spring flowers and are blooming now. They are a member of the Madder family. They usually bloom March through April. So tiny, yet so beautiful and quite aromatic filling the air with their sweet smell.

Other names are Angeleyes, Innocence, Fairy Flax and Star Violet. Bluets have some strange family members which do not resemble them at all. Oddly, they are related to plants that provide us with coffee and quinine. Others include buttonweeds and the beautiful gardenia. Often even smaller white flowers are found mingled in among all the lavender.

"Truth shall spring out of the earth and righteousness shall look down from Heaven."
Psalm 85:11 KJV
