A Rare Find!!

This is a very rare find and I am excited that we found it. It is a Clasping Milkweed or Curly Milkweed.

In doing research I have only found it referred to as having pink, red or purple blooms, making this one even more special. I was unable to identify it but got a correct ID from the Caddo Wildflower Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas. I love find new species!!

This plant is on the endangered species list in many states. This one was found on a dirt road that is hardly ever traveled, it dead ends into Black Cypress Bayou. The recent rains had washed the road out and after they were graded these plants came up. All they needed was for the soil to be disturbed and seeds able to get warm sunlight.
