Even though we live in the "Piney Woods" of north east Texas we still have beautiful hardwoods. There are giant oaks, red maples, sweet gum and many more. The Hickory is one of my favorites.
In fall the Hickories begin to change from green to yellow and then to a golden brown. They have nuts about the size of walnuts that fall and are a major food source for the squirrels who work non-stop storing them away for their winter feast. I also love to have a piece of Hickory burning in the fireplace ---the smell is wonderful! This year we have been blessed with one of the most colorful fall seasons that I can remember in a long time. Soon the beautiful leaves will be gone and the trees will "rest" for the winter months only to come back in the spring with their beautiful foliage.
"And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the FATHER hath put in his own power."
Acts 1:7

we had a colorful fall last year and it's shaping up to be another. i've always said we have a lot of color down here; just need to look for it and appreciate what we get. someone always responds with "oh, you should see new england..." i have, really! it is beautiful, but again, we have a lot of color down here; just need to look for it and appreciate what we get. kinda like comparing ourselves to the models and movie stars, right? :)
