Golden Aster

Member: Aster family
Blooms: May - November
This is a sure sign of fall when the yellow asters begin to bloom and they are found almost everywhere.
The grow in poor sandy soils up to about 2 feet tall and are really colorful with their dark green foilage and bright sunny yellow flowers. Its blooms are quite aromatic making them attractive to insects. They are found in all eastern and central parts of the state. Each little flower is only about 1 inch across but ever so pretty.
Native Americans used this plant for many medicinal uses and called it Chickadee Plant as the seeds are loved by the tiny Chickadee birds. They believed these plants had special powers and also used them in their ceremonial dances and rituals.

"I will make a man more precious than fine gold......"
