Wild Purslane

Member of Portulaca Family
Blooms: July - August
This tiny little plant is very similar to Portulaca and the garden variety of Purslane , which I have posted further back. It is a succulent and requires very little water.
It's tiny blooms, approximately 1/5" are made up of 4 tiny yellow petals.
In Mediterranean areas, the leaves of this plant are used in salads and in soups and stews. It is a herbaceous perennial that has significant medicinal properties. It is said that the leaves will lower blood pressure as well as cholesterol due to its omega-3 fatty acids . In Mexico it is named Verdolga and is used in omelets and lots of recipes.
I have looked for this little plant for a long time, without any results. This year, it came up in my garden beds. What a surprise!!
"The hay appeareth and the tender grass sheweth itself and the herbs of the mountains are gathered."

Proverbs 27:25
