These are blooming in yards everywhere now. I always heard them called "Tulip Trees", after researching, I discovered that they are indeed in the Magnolia family.
This particular one is listed as Campbellii.
I got my information from the American Horticultural Society Plant Encyclopedia. Guess I learned something new today. Anyway, it it very beautiful and blooms in March and April as opposed to our beautiful southern magnolia which blooms in summer with huge white blooms. Take a closer look at it-----truly magnificant, look closely and you will see the magnolia resemblence.
