Lichen

I really like to look at all the different lichens, they are just so unique and neat.
Lichens are composite organisms consisting of a symboiotic association of a fungus with a photosynthetic parter, usually a green algea.
Lichens occur in some of the most extreme enviorments on Earth, arctic tundra, hot deserts, rocky coasts and toxic slag heaps.
However, they are also abundant on leaves and branches in rain forests and temperate woodlands, even on bare rock. Lichens have been used in making dyes and perfumes as well as in traditional medicines.Click on picture for closer look, like something out of the ocean?? Weird.
