Mosses

These mosses stay green year round. Even after the snow melted, they were still green and thriving. They grow in large groups often covering large areas of shady woodlands. They love lots of moisture also.
The mosses feed off nutrients in the soil. They require very little sunlight.
They are found all along shady, wet ditches and road banks. They look like green velvet along the road sides in the wooded areas. Click for a closer view.
There are over 30,000 identified species of mosses. This particular one is very pretty and thrives in North East Texas Pineywoods.
