Hibiscus

This is not a wildflower, but has relatives in Texas that are. It is in the Mallow family.

It begins to bloom, usually around last of June and blooms throughout the summer. The beautiful blooms reach the size of a dinner plate. They really attract humminbirds, as they love anything red.

These will take full sun and will come back year after year. One year I had several that reached over 7 ft. tall. Sadly, the whiteflies came and just killed them in a very short period of time. Usually systemic insecticides will stop white flies. They don't require much care, other than watching for insect infestion. They come in white, pinks and this vibrant red. They are one of my favorites and a very beautiful additon to any type garden. Click on the picture for the beautiful detail of this flower.
