White Columbine

Member of Columbine Family

Blooms: April - September

This is the most beautiful Columbine , to me. It is very rare to find a white one. Most are red or yellow.

Visiting Austin, I stopped in Rockdale, Texas at Walmart and found this one in a very small pot for $3, what a find!!

The name Columbine comes from the latin word Columbo, meaning white doves.

Ralph Waldo Emerson once wrote of the White Colombine. He said: " O Columbine, open your folded wrapper, where two twin doves dwell.

Notice the long nectar tubes, symbolizing the necks and heads of the white doves and the petals as wings and tail feathers. Most insects cannot get to the nectar, but hummingbirds with their long beaks can easily reach down into the tubes for the sweet nectar.
