This one, commonly called American Carrot Weed comes from its namesake, a long tuber. Native Americans cultivated these tubers when they were young and tender for food. It also has a common names of Rattlesnake Weed and Bird's Nest, as the flower head closes in shape of bird's nest. Its leaves are very lacey as that of parsley. Hundreds of tiny, tiny white flowers. This has lots of similarities to other members of Carrot family, you just have to look closely at leaves and blooms.
Like other members of this family, it was used for food and the seeds were often eaten for birth control. (I don't recommend you try it though!) Poultices were made to treat snakebite.

Without a scientific name, it is difficult to know which plant you are referring to. Wild Carrot (Daucus Carota) IS Queen Anne's Lace... Carrot Weed is a different plant; I can venture a guess that you are referring to Oenanthe pimpinelloides in this post. Your photos are stunning, scientific names are much more exact than common names, which can refer to many different plants using the same common name (bee balm, for example), and using scientific nomenclature would only add to your blog here.

The Queen Anne's Lace, Parsley family. Daucus Carota. I know they are often misidentified because of the different common names. I do not use the botanical names because they are too difficult for most to understand, so just use common names. Thanks for your input, I like to know people are looking, if I goofed up, at least you can enjoy the pictures. Glad you enjoyed the photos.
