Question Mark Butterfly
Found this new species in my garden today. This one is so unique and so beautiful. Its name, the Question Mark, comes from the small silver question mark design on its hindwing when the wings are closed.
Once the wings are opened, what a beautiful design and combination of colors!
Question Marks are members of the Angelwing Family of butterflies, derived from their irregular wing pattern around the edges. In open wingspan it also has a beautiful silver outline around the wings. I love this one! As I watered my flower garden this one was flying all around and cooperating quite well for a great picture to share. Though it was in the wildflower part of my garden, they do not feed off flowers but off animal droppings and tree sap. These butterflies have two broods per year and love to live mostly in wooded areas.
