Carolina Geranium

This plant is often referred to  as Carolina Cranesbill, Crane's Bill and Wild Geranium. The seed pods resemble a crane's bill giving it it's a common name. It grows 6-24" with flowers 1/4" which are pale pink to white. Blooming begins in March through May. In summer the leaves turn variuous shades of yellow, red and purple giving a colorful accent even after blooming is over.

Native Americans used this plant for several ailments ranging from toothache to gonorrhea. They also used it for an astringent or stypic to stop bleeding in open wounds.
