Moth Mullein

This beautiful flower is a member of the figwort family and blooms from April through August.

Moth Mullein grows to about 6 feet tall and often in colonies. The blooms are about 1 1/4" across and bloom all the way to the tip of each stalk. They can also be found in white to pale pink. The beautiful blossoms are highly attractive to moths as they begin to open in late evening and close up about mid-morning. Its name comes from its attraction of these moths. It is written that this plant is a deterrent for cockroaches. These were growing in poor sandy, rocky soil and in full sun. Click on the flower and see the fuzzy detail of this flower---very pretty!

Behold, the LORD GOD will help me, who is he who shall condem me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up."
Isaiah 50:9
