Blue Copper Hairstreak Butterfly

These beautiful little butterflies are 1 1/8 to 1 3/8 inches across their wingspan. Though very tiny, they are very colorful. This one is the male which is a iridescent sky blue when his wings are open. He has the tiny hair-like tails giving it its name. The females are brown with small amounts of blue.
The Blue Copper feeds on nectar mainly from wild Buckwheat and Hempweeds. Their larvae also feed on these particular plants. They are usually found in rocky, sandy
areas out in the open. Click on the picture to get a good look at this handsome guy.
"Also 20 basons of gold, of a thousand drams; and 2 vesses of fine copper, precious as gold."
Ezra 8:27
