Camphor Weed

A first find on this one.

Its pink buds are just beginning to open. Very showy.

We found this growing out in the open where timber had been cut and it was getting full sun. It is a member of the Aster family and blooms for August until November. It is an annual perennial herb which can grow up to 5 feet tall. Its light pink blooms are in large clusters. It is mostly found in eastern and central parts of Texas.

The leaves of the Camphor are very aromatic and smell like camphor, which is not a very pleasant odor. Native Americans used it for many medicinal purposes. It was used as a stimulant and a diuretic. It was also boiled and the liquid used as a wash for sore eyes.

"For one believeth that he may eat all things; another who is weak, eateth herbs."

Romans 14:2
