Blooms May - June & in fall after rains.
This plant is very pretty, it grows up to 6 ft. tall in just about all parts of Texas. The deer feed on it's blooms, but leaves are to tough and spiney. The bloom head is on a long stem and the leaves are tough with a very sharpe point. It is often referred to as the Spanish Dagger plant.
Indians used the coarse pointed leaves to weave baskets.
