Huge Oak Trees

Most of our hardwoods have already shed their leaves now. We have many types of oaks in North East Texas, Red Oak, White Oak, Pin Oak, Post Oak and Black Jack Oaks, and the list goes on. One of the watchers of my blog commented that she loved the trees in winter, when they were bare. They are quite pretty, especially when covered in snow!!
The Red Oak is my favorite. It has such beautiful colorful leaves and does not shed it's leaves until spring when it's new leaves begin to bud out. Oaks provide a crop of acorns in the fall which is an important source of food for wildlife. The squirrels have been busy storing them up for those long cold winter nights and midnight snacks.
I love huge trees of any kind. Some here are just so large that they must be over 100 years old. It's sad to see them cut down or destroyed by storms.
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season.
Psalm 1: 1-3
