Red Spider Lily

Member of Lycoris Radiata Family
Blooms: late summer
This beautiful lily comes up from a bulb in late summer and multiplies like crazy year after year. They are also called Surprise Lilies because they just seem to pop up over night. When in bloom they have no leaves, but after the blooms shed, they put out a very narrow dark green slender leaf similar to other lilies. There flowers are such a beautiful rose-red color. Each flower head has 5-6 individual flowers and their petals curl backward and put forth long anthers which have nectar on the tips. Click on this to see how beautiful it is.

I love these things. Used to have them in my beds in Morgan City.
But there are just bunches at the old, burned out house up by you. I saw them Sunday when I came by.

I can never find the bulbs though & think I'll come back w/ a shovel so I can get a start again.
