Standing Cypress

Member of Phlox Family
Blooms: June - August
This plant is so beautiful. I had it posted before but have replaced it with a better picture. Click to see the detail.
Standing Cypress grow in the poorest of soils. They like dry, sandy soils and will grow in full sunlight or part shade. Very rarely, they have been found to be a yellow-orange. They do well in gardens and need to be started from seeds sown in the fall.
Common names are Texas Star, Flame Flower or Indian Plume.

These are one of my favorites & are so bright red - really eye-catching. They do really well at the farm & are still a couple of weeks away from blooming there. The hummingbirds love them & travel up & down each stalk to make sure they get a taste of every flower. (That's "Sisk" hummingbirds.)
