Virginia Creeper Vine
Member of Grape Family
Most beautiful in Fall
This vine is very prominent in North East Texas and grows up into the trees, often covering their trunks and branches.
It is also called "Five-Fingered Ivy". In early fall the leaves turn a blood red and are beautiful up in the trees. They also will have clumps of blue-black grape-like berries. It will also cover walls and fences, it loves to climb.
This plant has gotten a bad reputation as being Poison Ivy, when indeed, it is not poisonous.
The common "rule" is : if it has an odd number of leaves, it is poisonous, not true. This plant is not harmful in any way. You can bet Fall is just around the corner when this plant begins to show it's beautiful color.
