Prickley Pear Cactus

Member of Cactus Family

Blooms: May - June

These Cacti grow in dry, sandy, rocky soils. They have very beautiful blooms, click for better look. They also have a pear shaped purple "fruit pod" after the bloom drops. They are very attractive and edible.

The Cacti are not bothered by insects except for gathering their pollen and are not grazed by wildlife.
